About House of Nanking

House of Nanking is a chinese restaurant in San Francisco, California. It is listed at 919 Kearny St, San Francisco, CA 94133, which places it among the local businesses of San Francisco that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Google also lists it under family restaurant, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.

Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.

The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. Typical hours are 11 am–9 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and San Francisco follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Best Chinese food I have ever had. Each and every dish was soooo flavorful and delicious. It’s a small restaurant but it’s very renowned and it’s been featured in several food channels and magazines. It’s Keanu Reeves’s favorite restaurant as well.

A friend recommended the House of Nanking, saying there's always a line but it's the best Chinese food ever -- we arrived around 5:45 and didn't have to wait at all, and the food did not disappoint at all! We (two of us) tried the crispy beef potstickers and the spicy szechuan chicken with peppers. Both were amazing! The chicken was literally falling apart it was so tender and perfectly cooked. Would definitely come again, even if the line was out the door! Oh, and we sat outside and it was very pleasant; not too loud like I imagine the inside would be.

House of Nanking is an absolute must-visit! The food was fresh, full of flavor, and every dish we ordered was outstanding. The portions were generous, and the service was warm, attentive, and made us feel right at home. You can tell they take pride in both the quality of their food and the experience they provide. If you’re looking for delicious Chinese food with a welcoming atmosphere, this place is definitely worth a visit. I’ll be coming back!

If you're looking for great food with good prices this is the place. Staff were very friendly and the service was very good. Very busy place with a good atmosphere and history. Came back a 2nd time for dinner on Sunday Ordered 3 dishes one chicken, one pork and noodles. Asked the waitress for the chefs choice and we were not disappointed. Pork Ribs glazed with Zucchini, Chicken with sweet potatoes and sauce, and last of all noodles with herbs. The taste was amazing, l would highly recommend trying this.

I’ve heard a lot about House of Nanking. Some good, some bad. Let’s start with the not-so-flattering: I’ve always been reminded by a friend that you end up spending more than you plan when going to this restaurant. He tells me if you’re taking your time to order they will be rude and start ordering in your behalf and end up ordering more than your original budget. Well…that same friend and I went and we didn’t experience that thank goodness! Once seated and ordered the food comes in in maybe 10 mins and both our orders tasted greatttt! I can’t find my menu picture anymore but I had the string beans and it tasted so good and well seasoned. Can’t remember what my friend got but it was equally delicious. Sadly we went to another for dessert. Restaurant was packed and a plus for having their own merch which was kinda cute but don’t want to be mistaken as a server there 😂! Bathroom was busy but ok. So in short…someone ordering in your behalf doesn’t exist anymore and I’m happy with that! 😋👍🏼
